It's beginning to look a lot like.....

So... you thought I meant Christmas? Well, for me, I do! We celebrate the birth of Christ here, despite the fact that this is not really his birthday. It's okay with me - we can just as easily celebrate it now as any other time of the year and the Christian calendar is set up so that I can remember the seasons of the church and keep things relatively straight in my head. lol (That's quite a feat sometimes...)

So, here we're putting together Dalton's birthday party to be held on Saturday (his birthday is Friday). I can't believe he's nearly 6 years old. I'm not sure where that time went but it went sure enough. I'm stuck between happiness and joy and a wee tad of despair that my baby is growing up so quickly.

Because December 15th is his birthday, we've always tried to keep his birthday separate. (Even thinking maybe doing an UnBirthday in summer...) We left it up to him to decide if he wanted the Christmas decorations up this year before or after his birthday. He decided he wanted them NOW so we're decorating for that too. Egads how will I accomplish it all by Friday afternoon??

So, I've taken time to revisit our traditions. We have a few things I traditionally do to keep things jolly. I love mistletoe. I hang it every year. I love to have my door and porch decorated. I love getting out the HUGE wooden Santa my daddy cutout and painted when I was a little girl to put out in front of my house. I enjoy decorating the bathroom with pretty hand towels and a tiny tree I made.

I love hanging the stockings I made (by the chimney with care tee hee). I love making traditional Christmas cookies with the boys. I love getting out my Christmas linens for the Kitchen and my special simmering potpourri.

I love reading the Christmas story with the boys (and Dalton frequently asks for it). I love reading The Night Before Christmas and reading from my Christmas around the world book. I love singing Christmas Carols with the kids (who beg me not to sing). My favorite thing is to go to Christmas eve service at my church. I LOVE Christmas eve service. It makes me feel so good and fills me with peace and hope.

So, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at my house and I'm getting those wonderful holiday feelings in my heart. A feeling of renewal, love, joy and peace.

What's it beginning to look like at your house?

Well not Christmas at the moment. LOL I have few things set out. But we still have to get a tree and get it decorated. The 15th is my mom's Birthday too.

Chaos! It's beginning to look like chaos. LOL The house is decorated for Christmas & gathered around the tree are a baby swing, exersaucer, floor gym & bouncey seat. Guess I could put some red bows on them & viola! Instant decoration. LOL

It's looked a lot like Christmas here for weeks...although I can't say that I feel like it's Christmas. I'm having a difficult time engaging in the holiday season this year although I don't know why.

Merry Christmas to you my friend.
